Meet Bazz Furniss
Joined Alex FM: 2014
Bazz Furniss joined Alex FM back in 2014, driven by a lifelong love of music and a new chapter in his life following retirement. After a motorcycle accident slowed him down, radio became more than just a hobby, it became a passion that filled the gap and re-ignited his connection with the community.
When asked about his all-time favourite song, Bazz confesses it’s an impossible question. But he singles out “House of The Rising Sun”, particularly the 1969 version by Frijid Pink, as a standout—both for its haunting melody and its history as a traditional folk tune passed down through generations.
Before radio, Bazz held a long list of jobs—so many, in fact, that friends keep telling him to write a book. He’s not written it yet, but through Alex FM, he’s found his perfect place to share stories, music, and memories with the people of Goolwa and the wider Fleurieu community.
For Bazz, community radio is about freedom, connection, and storytelling. He loves that he can choose the music he plays, and nothing beats hearing that a track sparked a memory or brought joy to a listener. It’s this kind of personal connection that keeps him coming back to the studio week after week.
About this program
Though Tune Up Tuesday leans heavily into classic rock, Bazz’s taste is wide-ranging and shifts with his mood. Over time, he’s found his musical preferences softening, though there’s always a place for a bit of Creedence—“You can’t go wrong if you play a bit of that Creedence song,” as John Fogerty would say. With the occasional quirky trivia and Bazz’s easygoing style, it’s the perfect soundtrack to your midday. Expect familiar favourites, deep cuts, and the kind of music that makes you pause and reminisce.
