Meet Debbie

Joined Alex FM: 2014

Debbie Smith is a proud champion of Australian music and community spirit. Since joining Alex FM in 2014, she has curated and hosted All New Australian Music Morning — a vibrant and inclusive show that highlights the incredible breadth of musical talent from across the country.

With no prior radio experience before joining Alex FM, Debbie quickly found her voice behind the mic and became an integral part of the station’s presenter team. Her show reflects not only her passion for music, but also her deep involvement in the Goolwa community. Debbie enjoys nearly all genres of music, but especially loves the storytelling and diversity of Australian artists — with Paul Kelly standing out as a long-time favourite.

Prior to retirement, Debbie ran a primary school canteen business and also worked with both the State and Federal Electoral Commissions. Outside the station, she actively contributes to local causes through Cittaslow Goolwa and Goolwa Neighbourhood Watch, further exemplifying her dedication to the region she calls home.

About this program

Debbie’s All New Australian Music Morning is a celebration of Australia’s rich and diverse music scene. Every week, listeners are treated to a wide range of genres — from indie and pop to rock and folk — all proudly homegrown.

The show also includes:

  • Community Corner – Regular chats with local organisation reps, musical guests, artists, and authors promoting upcoming events and initiatives.
  • Local Gig Guide – A handy rundown of what’s happening in the local live music scene, spotlighting musicians and venues across the Fleurieu region.

A favourite track of Debbie’s is Sounds of Then (This is Australia) by Ganggajang — a fitting anthem for someone so connected to the music and community of this country.
